Hi Mcroft,

A 5520 is not support with more ram as needed. So you need to pull out the old ram before you place the new RAM. Also the upgrade kit has always to modules: so 2 times 1 gig.

Also two units in a cluster with different amount of memory is not supported!

HW has to be the same.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/hw/maintenance/guide/procs.html#wp1076043

Note

Some Cisco ASA 5510 have only a single memory socket, see

Figure 4-26

. while others have four memory sockets. In both cases, remove the existing DIMM, and replace it with the new one. For memory upgrade in the Cisco ASA 5510 with four memory sockets, use slot 1 - P13 and note that only one slot must be populated at all times.

Hi,

I am upgrading a ASA5520 to the lastest 8.4 image.

An onsite Engineer has installed the memory upgrade kit (2GB) for me.

However, he has left in the old 2x 256MB modules.

So now I have.

Slot1: 256MB

Slot2: 1GB

Slot3: 256MB

Slot4: 2GB

A Total of 2560 MB RAM

Is it a good idea to mix modules ?

I would say NO, as generally mixing clock speed and manufacture's is not good practise.

Should I have the original modules removed ?

Thanks

Matt
