      <description>&lt;P&gt;hi &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt; i have a question,i have a pix 501.Now on the inside interface can we have both public ip+private ip's. &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;internet&amp;lt;--&amp;gt;router&amp;lt;--&amp;gt;pix 501&amp;lt;--&amp;gt;(public ip+private ip)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Pleas tell me how it can be done if possible.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;hi&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Its not possible to have both Public/private behind the Inside interface as the PIX doesnt support the secondary addressing concept.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If you have another port (which is not the case with 501) u can assign the public ip to that other free port.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;regds&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Option 1:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;You will need a layer 3 device(could be a switch) before the pix to achieve this. However this will introduce an additional hop.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Option 2 (recommended): use private ips internally and for the host requiring public ips use static NAT on the pix.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
