New ASA5512X - IPS and Web/App Filtering

Hello,

Just to wanted to make sure, on the new line of ASA 5512X or 5515X, can I run IPS and Web/App Security at the same time? There is no longer a separate module for IPS or Web Filtering as it was the case on 5510 or 5520 so I think we are now beyond this limitation correct?

Hello Remi,

On the ASA X series you got to choose whether you will use the IPS or the Content Aware funcionalities (AVC or WSE).

So bottom line is one or the other (seems like in the future we are looking to bring both of the together).

Cisco has stated on their website that a future software release will remove this limitation, but they don't give any time scales.

If you order an IPS bundle, then make sure the optional SSD line item is added, so that you can inplement CX functionality in future. If you don't, then there is no option to add it later.
