Hi,

i am running two pix in active stanby mode, it happen often that i connect to both nodes at the same time and i issue command by mistake on the stnaby unit, i am then prompted with the synch issue. is there any way to customize the prompt so you know if you are on the active or stanby unit. like

pix1 [ACTIVE] (config)#

pix1 [STANDBY READY] (config)#

i have looked on cisco docs but haven't find anything that talk about this kind of settings.

Thanks

Unfortunately, since the configs are synchronized, both will always have the same prompt. There is not a way to accomplish this.

Two suggestions: First, if you are unsure of which PIX you are on, run a "sho fail" command. The first section will show the PIX you are on, either "Primary-active", "Secondary-Standby", "Primary-Standby", or "Secondary-Active"

Second: If you use the Windows Telnet, or TeraTerm SSH, the top Banner will show the current IP address you are connected to. (not sure of other connectivity options). This should help to keep the two PIX's identified.

Hope this helps.
