I have gone through following document

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/csids/csids12/eclbips5.htm

and I wanted to know if I can configure ECLB with 2 IPS appliances and a 4500 switch ? The document states it can be done with 6500 but that is for the service module option .

Hi,

As far it goes, it only will support it for high availability and not for traffic divert. The other option woluld be an ASA in transparent ending up an ehterchannel there.

Mike

Any properly performed STATEFULL load balancing can be used to spread traffic lad across multiple sensors. ECLB works. Since the load balancing decision is being made for each source/dest IP address pair you will find it wont evenly balance your load 50/50. It will be close, but don;t be surprised (or plan for) 60/40 or worse, depending on your traffic.

- Bob
