Good Reading Material to Help Explain Zone Based Firewall Approach?

All,

I could use a really good book/article/document (something) that explains how zone based firewalls work? I am familiar with the traditional ACL approach, but am very confused by the newer zone based firewall approach.

Are there any recommendations that you guys can make on what I can read? Anything online (and free) would be great. If you have a good book to recommend, that would be fine as well.
