PIX gigabit interface

HI

I have a PIX 525, I have currently 4 fastethernet interfaces on it, how many gigabit interfaces could I add to this pix?. I have found PIX-1GE-66 for this purpose is this the correct one, also is it fiber capable (it says "PIX 66-MHz Gigabit Ethernet int. card, Multimode (SX) SC") or a normall cat5/6. if I am wrong could someone please tell me what I need for the gigabit interface card.?

Also- If I upgrade the pix from 6.1 to 6.3 do I need another activation-key?

Thanks

The PIX 525 has 3 available PCI slots for additional interface cards. You can use all 3 of these for Gig interface cards. If you have 4 FastE interfaces currently, I would assume you have 2 of the slots filled with single FastE interface cards (in addition to the 2 on-board FastE interfaces on the chassis). The PIX-1GE-66 is the proper pafrt number for this. This PIX 525 only has a 33MHz bus so the 66MHz Gig card will extend out further than the slot. Also, the 525 has a best case throughput of about 320 MB/s so true Gig speeds cannot be achieved through a 525 (need a 535 for this). We only support fiber Gig interfaces on the PIX - no copper nor any plans for copper Gig support that I am aware of.

And finally, you will not need a new activation key after upgrading from 6.1 to 6.3 unless you need to add new features.

Hope this helps.

Scott
