image upgrade

All experts, our section is doing image upgrade from fwsm 2.3(4) to 3.2. during maintence image upgrade some errors came up and the partition wasnt upgraded.

error:

imgcopy_add_bytes: image is too big.
ERROR: Image could not be downloaded. Try again.
Maintenance partition not upgraded.

personnel said they did clear/delete file or so command, to get some space, since it was suspected to be due to space problem.

it is not certain what is the cause & fix to it. image size is around 18M.

please help to identify & remedy this problem. appreciate the assistances.

This does not sound right at all.

I assume that you are trying to upgrade the application partition, not the maintenance partition.

However based on the error logs, it seems that you have tried to upgrade the FWSM software by upgrading the maintenance partition.

Can you please advise what exactly has been performed? step by step command on what has been entered will be good to see how the upgrade is actually performed.

Here is the upgrade procedure for FWSM for your reference:

To upgrade from FWSM version 2.x to 3.x, you will have to check the following:

- Check if you already have Maintenance Partition version of 2.1.2, if you already have that version, you can proceed straight to upgrading the actual FWSM software (application software).

- If Maintenance Partition is not version 2.1.2, then follow the steps on the above document to upgrade the maintenance partition first to version 2.1.2 prior to upgrading the application (FWSM) software to version 3.2

Hi,

the maintenence partition was not complying to 2.1.2 as required. hence there was an attempt to upgrade the mp to required 2.1.2, when the error came up.

upgrade-mp tftp
Address or name of remote host [0.0.0.0]? 1.1.1.2
Source file name []? mp.2-1-2.bin
copying tftp://1.1.1.2/mp.2-1-2.bin to flash
[yes|no|again]?yes

Just re-reading your initial post again, and it seems that the file size is indeed too big, and after looking at your attempt to copy it across, it reads "mp.2-1-2.bin" which is incorrect.

Please kindly upload the "gz" version of the file, ie: what you downloaded from cisco.com, and the actual filesize would be a lot smaller than 18MB after it's being gunzipped.

suggestion was tried but it kept repeating the same error.

what is the way to check the size being used by files in module or any other suggestions please.

I don't see that version 2.1.2 is available for download anymore.

Can you please donwload a fresh copy of MP version 2.1.3 from cisco.com, and upload that version please.
