I want to upgrade my PIX 525 FO UR bundeled version 6.1 (2) to 6.3(3).

1. What precautions I need to take

2. How do I backup my 3des activation keys

3. Do I need to upgrade both the firewalls

together or I can upgrade one and the second

later. (presently its running in a split mode and

not in failover mode)

4. Can I backup a copy of my earlier IOS

Anair,

Here are a few suggestions to your questions:

1. I would make sure you have a copy of your current config stored somewhere either in hard copy form or stored on a TFTP server (or both).

2. There is no need to do this but if you would like to, just save a copy of a 'sh ver' from the PIX. The activation key is the part that is of interest here.

3. Since they are not setup as a failover pair, then upgrading both is not a requirement.

4. No, but I can post a copy of 6.1(2) for backup purposes if you send me an e-mail to sclayton@cisco.com.
