topic pix can't ping any other host, it can't be pinged by any other host either in Network Security

the inside interface is 'line protocol up'. And it is ok for IP addressing. The pix(v6.2) receives no reponse from other host when it pings, hosts receive no response from the pix when it pings either. And the pix can learn the mac of the host after the host send a ping to the pix. ICMP has been permitted.

Hi Brett,

thanks for your reply.

I have tried all of these . but it seems not working. The problem is that the switch which the pix connects to does not learn the MAC of the pix. Is it possible that the Ether interface has some hardware problem?

Regards,

su

What does the switchport show and is it set up correctly?

Options: 1) give the switch a static mac address for the PIX and point it to the port connected to the PIX to see if that works, 2)shut then no shut the switch port, 3) switch to another port on the switch, 4) shut then no shut the PIX interface, 5) switch cables, 6)put sniffer between the PIX and the switch to see what is happening, 7) verify settings on PIX and switch (eg. speed/duplex/etc) to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary, 😎 contact cisco to possibly RMA the PIX (after connecting a PC into that port to make sure it's not the switch).

Hope it helps.

Steve
