I solved this by "upgrading" the PIX OS from Rom monitor mode. At the end of this process you are prompted for the activation key - this is not the case if you upgrade directly from PIX OS (using the copy flash tftp command)

PIX version 6.2 is said to contain a command "activation key <KEY>"</KEY>

also check http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/110/upgrade.shtml#up-boot

success !

I upgraded pix 525 IOS ver 5.2(3) to IOS 6.0(1).The DES feature was disabled on the PIX.The show version commands shows the activation key to be activated to enable the DES.During upgrade of the IOS I was not prompted to enter the key.Now i have IOS 6.0(1) in the PIX525 but DES is disabled.I tried to enter the key manually but i could not succeed.

Kindly help me out and reply soon.
