topic Recovering the config from a failed SSM-40 in Network Security

We had a SSM-40 fail last night (our 4th in the two years). To get us back up as quickly as possible, I had to pull the SSM-40 and its counterpart from our two 5540's that are in a active/standby configuration.

Since I am currently under a configuration hold situation because of a datacenter upgrade that will be occuring starting in 48 hours from now, I cant take the ASA's back down to put the module back in to attempt to retrieve my current configuration file.

I have removed the CF card and put it in a reader on a linux workstation, I was able to see the file system. Does anyone know of where to find the config file on the CF card ? I would like to get this for several reasons - 1) I would like to transfer the file to the new SSM-40 that will be arriving tomorrow and 2) Moving forward, I would like to know the file is so that when we return the equipment to the leasing company at the end of the lease so I would prefer not to have this info still on the SSM module when it goes back.

I usually have a Lab ASA but not one that will handle the SSM-40. I am guessing that I might be able to swap flash cards between the SSM's but would prefer not to mix/match parts to keep things simple for all concerned.

Thanks,

Ron

Does anyone know of where to find the config file on the CF card?

Hi Ronald. This is not Cisco-supported, but the files you would be most interested in would probably be:

/usr/cids/idsRoot/etc/current.cfg

/usr/cids/idsRoot/etc/backup.cfg

Best practices of course would be to have up-to-date backups stored somewhere safe incase of failure .

Moving forward, I would like to know the file is so that when we return the equipment to the leasing company at the end of the lease so I would prefer not to have this info still on the SSM module when it goes back.

Your best bet for that would be to re-image the sensor module before returning the gear.
