IOS IPS licensing

Hi Forumers'

i have a C1841 router loaded with IOS 12.4T advance enterprise.

Typically I had load the IPS signature (IOS-S556-CLI.pkg) to the router. Just there's no license install. It seems success install view using CCP.

My question is :

1. Will the IOS IPS working without license?

2. What the license can do beside it able the router auto-update on IPS signature?

3. what happen if the trial license expire, any other impact beside no more auto-update on IPS signature?

--yes, IOS IPS will work without a license. However, the router will not be able to update signatures.

2. What the license can do beside it able the router auto-update on IPS signature?

--the license enables IOS IPS to install updated signatures

3. what happen if the trial license expire, any other impact beside no more auto-update on IPS signature?

--no impact, except for the fact that IOS IPS cannot install new signatures

You can think of it like paying a yearly fee for antivirus subscription. Yes, the antivirus will continue to work with existing updates. However, new threats are released all the time, so unless the antivirus is updated, the host is still vulnerable to the latest threats.

Everything is clear now.

i attach the screen shot fro the device license feature, so what does it mean for SSL_VPN with evaluation is yes? and how i can own it permanently?

Just wondering where i can get the information about cisco device licensing matter, for IOS 15.x, if you can paste the URL here will be helpful enough

Hello,

The output of "show license detail" should show the length of time of the evaluation.

Since the 1841 is running IOS version 15.x, Table 8 in the link below has the part numbers for the SSL VPN licenses:
