Dear,

Please your support. I have two ASA 5545-X without module firepower, i need to install firepower module. The SSD module was purchased and licensed.

Both ASA Firewall are in enviroment production, in fail over active passive.

I have some questions about the procedure, the are:

1. I understand that the SSD can be installed hot swap, after having installed it is necessary to restart the ASA firewall?
2. On the front panel of the ASA, can I install the ssd drive in any bay, HD 0 or HD 1?
3. Is there a command to validate if the bay is available?

Thanks very much!

Hi

If this is the first time you install a ssd drive into asa, you need to reboot your asa even if It's hot swappable (if i recall correctly and quite sure you can find it in the documentation).

Better to install it in HD0 slot add it's the first drive but it doesn't matter.

You can validate it by running the show inventory command. The new dusk should appear in the list.

Afterwards you're ready to start the staging. Just before staging it, make sure you uninstalled previous modules if any like ips or cx.

Thanks very much Francesco, you answered my doubts. I have two more question:

When installing the disk SSD and restarting the ASA, should the firewall start normally true, with the configuration that it had previously?

If the SSD disk comes without the firepower image, should I install it, does the installation process of the image mean that the firewall stops providing services?

Thanks again.

When installing the disk SSD and restarting the ASA, should the firewall start normally true, with the configuration that it had previously?

correct no impact on the config side of the asa. nothing to worry.

If the SSD disk comes without the firepower image, should I install it, does the installation process of the image mean that the firewall stops providing services?

no ASA software will be working fine. you just need to do config on the firepower either form the ASDM or from the v/FMC

few link in case you need them

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/asa-firepower-services/118644-configure-firepower-00.html

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/security/asa-5545-x-firepower-services/model.html#InstallandUpgradeGuides
