I am currently reading up on this and have a few queries: -

1)what does in-band & out-of-band mean?

2)what will NAC appliance do out of the box?

3)how is it integrated with Active

Directory?

4) Where can i get a good resource on deployment and configuration issues

1)what does in-band & out-of-band mean?

- In-band (Cisco Clean Access Server is always inline with user traffic)

- Out-of-band (Cisco Clean Access Server is inline only during authentication, posture assessment, and remediation)

2)what will NAC appliance do out of the box?

3310 3350 3390

3)how is it integrated with Active Directory?

- When users attempt to connect to the network via switch participate in NAC & configured with 802.1x, a login screen will be prompted, asking for username & password. If you have AD in the network to keep user database or as centralised database, this is where AD can be integrated with cisco NAC appliance for user authentication.

The boxes (3310,3350,3390) simplify configuration and setup compared to the NAC implementation using NAC Framework (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ns617/networking_solutions_sub_solution_home.html).

Many features are consolidated into one box.

Under NAC Framework, you have to configure many different boxes, features and functions, as well as need to meet specified requrements.

This is vast integration between Cisco and NAC partners.
