Is there a way to test the smtp server from the ASA without having to wait for a problem to see if it works?

thanks,

John

logging message <MESSAGE_NUMBER> level <SEVERITY_LEVEL> </SEVERITY_LEVEL></MESSAGE_NUMBER>

...change a 'normal' logging message to a level that will trigger an smtp log message.

w/o seeing your current logging config, that's what i'd suggest. don't leave the message level changed for too long if it is a common log message, otherwise it will use up the resources in the ASA quickly. you can also use an ACL to control it further.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00805a2e04.shtml#use
