FWSM --- Running Activation Key

Hi Guys,

I am wonder to see the Show Version inside my FWSM showing the running Activation Key,

Running Activation Key: 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000

I just want to know the reason that why it is showing like this,

Another message is,

"The Running Activation Key is not set, using default settings:"

If this is a new FWSM module, it looks like you have not installed you activation key yet or the one you have used is not valid:-

Hi,

Yes, they are all new FWSM. Actually we have 4 FWSM & all running in the production & showing the same Running Activation Key: 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000.

Kindly, i don't have any issue right now but wanna know that why it is like this or may be in future i can face some issues.

Any advice would be appreciate.

You may get issues depending on what you want. The activation key will unlock things like the amount of contexts you can have on your FWSM, VPN throughput etc.

Hi Mubashir,

FWSM doesn't need activation key. As it is blade sitting in Cisco 6500 or 7400 series, it doesn't want an activation key.

This is pretty common.

You do need an activation key for certain features such as context licence's as you get 2 by default and must purchase more.
