topic Automate FWSM Backup in Network Security

I am looking for method to automate backing up FWSM configuration. Our FWSMs have more than four contexts and I am looking for backing up all of them. Although I have read old posts on this in netpro but couldn't come on some concrete conclusion and at the sametime I don't see Cisco recommendation on this. Any thoughts?

How about RANCID? It is the best network

device configuration backup bar none.

Hi David,

Thanks for answering. I know it's good freeware but I doubt if it can pull off configuration from FWSM context itself. Have you tried to configure it thatway?

Remember RANCID is a freeware and the code is

written in Expect. It can be done. You just

have to modify the code to make it work.

That being said, I've never use multiple

security context but I am familiar with it.

The way log into the device to switch security

context, you can add a new expect script to do

just that and grab the configuration. It is

relatively simple.
