topic application inspection on pix? in Network Security

I have been messing around with some of the application awareness features on my asa 5505(for example recognizing a certian username of IM sites), and was wondering if this type of functionality is available on the PIX line, espeically if above 7.0 or 8.0 code? Particularly im interested in the ability to detect/bock P2P/bittorrent traffic by detecting the protocal rather then just port based.

The inspection ability is almost identical on both platforms. You can achieve the same on the PIX 7.x/8.x as well.

Have a look at this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a00808c38a6.shtml

Regards

Farrukh

thank you. I did not see a predefined entry for bittorrent. Is there one and whats the most effective way to block bittorrent using a pix firewall running 7.2+
