IPS send emails?

I need a configure the IPS send a email when it happens a security event medium or high. Actually I have a Network Monitor System with the Orion Tool (Solarwinds).

The IPS can send email independent or is needed to obtain some trap?

Assuming IPS v5.1:

The IPS cannot send email as a result of an alert. It can send alerts via snmp-traps. Probably the easiest way to accomplish if you want all medium/high is to go into the signatures and sort by the Severity column. Highlight all the high, click "actions" and add the "Request SNMP trap". Then do the same for medium (you can use the shift key to highlight ranges). Remember to configure the general SNMP trap settings.
