You just need to download 8.x image, copy to flash, set ASA to boot from the new image and reload the ASA.

copy tftp flash (to copy image from tftp server)

no boot system <CURRENT_IMAGE_URL></CURRENT_IMAGE_URL>

boot system <NEW_IMAGE_URL></NEW_IMAGE_URL>

Need not worry about license, it will remain same.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Vibhor.

the change in command format from 7.x to 8.x is automatically done during the upgrade.also, the new default fatures in 8.x are also added.also, please be aware that as 8.x is a bigger image with many more features, the memory consumption of your f/w would increase to a considerable amount.this is normal for any upgrade to 8.x.

Regards,

Sushil

Can you be more explicit about the license please? Is the upgrade to 8.0x free of charge?

Is it valid also for PIX family, like from 6.3(5) to 8.0(3)?

Thanks
