I purchased a ASA 5505 for our company. It is default out of the box. I have loaded the software and have attempted to get it working with no sucess. The internet connection is through a cable modem. The current Syamantec firewall(will be replaced by the Cicso) has a static IP, gateway, netmask and DNS. I see no where in the ASA to set the netmask, and DNS.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Items in bold are your specific settings.

IP Address and subnet mask

1. Global config mode

2. Go to your VLAN for the outside

3. ip address public ip netmask subnet mask

Setting the default gateway.

1. Global config mode

2. ip route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 gateway IP address

No need to use DNS, but if you really want it

1. Global config mode

2. dns name-server dns server ip

3. dns domain-lookup interface
