We do have a support contract for Cisco IDS from a Cisco partner and were able to receive software upgrades for last 3 years (including major version upgrades).

However on our request to provide us with an information on how to receive licenses for 5.0 they told us that we need to buy a new SAS contract for IPS product.

It is correct?

This is cut-n-pasted from the tail of another thread.

Existing Smartnet/5.0 License Info:

If customer has purchased a SMARTnet contract that was in effect before February 15, 2005, their SMARTnet contract is converted or is in the queue for conversion to a "Cisco Services for IPS" contract that combines signature updates with SMARTnet

deliverables. The conversion process is targeted for completion by end of April. During this time, if a registration for contract license fails, registrant should get the "trial license", confident that IPS will function the same under a trial license or contract license, and re-register for a contract license before expiration of the trial license.
