topic Questions on MARS in Network Security

I believe MARS can collect NetFlow data from Cisco router/switch that supports NetFlow. Can the MARS collect netflow data from Nortel 8600 Passport Switch? I guess my other question would be is NetFlow only a Cisco proprietory, other vendor wont support Netflow?

Thanks

Hi .. In regards to your question about netflow :

Netflow is a Cisco IOS software feature and also the name of an open (but proprietary) Cisco protocol for collecting IP traffic information. Cisco routers with netflow enabled generate netflow records, which are exported from the router in UDP packets and collected using a netflow collector. Juniper Networks provides a similar feature for its routers called cflow.

Other vendors do support netflow .. you can try netflow analizer for example whihc is not a cisco tool but supports cisco devices.

NetFlow Analyzer from AdventNet

http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/netflow/index.html

I hope it helps ... please rate if it does !!!
