In the figure below, the control plane nodes are interconnected with the borders nodes.

In the SD-Access Fabric Design document, it is mentioned that intermediate nodes interconnect and provide IP connectivity between the devices that play a role in the SD-Access Fabric such as Fabric Edge Node, Fabric Border Node and Control Plane Node.

So I'd like to know if it's possible to connect control plane nodes directly to intermediate nodes?

Yes. You can connect them how you want as long as there is routing reachability in the underlay to the loopbacks of the control-plane nodes.
