topic sda ip transit migration in Software-Defined Access (SD-Access)

Hi together,

I would like to find out whether my ideas for migration would work.

A small sketch is attached.

I would connect a C9300 to the existing C3850 in the branch office.

I would initially use an IP transit there so that I have VLANs that I can put on the existing trunk connection. This ensures parallel operation of the existing and new structure.

When the migration of the devices is complete (everything that was on the C3850 is now on the C9300) then I thought the following:

To avoid the hassle of IP transit (various bgp peering points) I would add an SDA transit to the C9300 in a maintenance window and then disconnect the connection between HQ C3850 and Branch C3850.

Now I would connect the C9300 directly to a C9500 in the HQ, which is of course set up in the SDA.

Now the IP transit will no longer work and I can remove the IP transit.

I now have an SDA transit that is managed by the Catalyst Center itself.

In the sketch I have marked the SDA transit in green, but it only comes into effect when I have plugged the cable into the C9500.

Is this possible or am I making a mistake here?

Hello @p11l

Your plan is feasible, and the phased approach is a good way to minimize risk during the migration. However, the success of the migration depends on careful planning, thorough testing, and proper configuration of the SDA fabric. Make sure to:

Test the SDA transit thoroughly before removing the IP transit.

Have a rollback plan in case of issues.

Verify all configurations in Cisco DNA Center to ensure that the C9300 and C9500 are properly integrated into the SDA fabric.
