topic Unity 3.1(2) to 4.0(4) migration recommendation in Unified Communications Infrastructure

I'd like some opinions on the path of lest resistance. We need to upgrade Unity from 3.1.2 to 4.0.4. We also need to upgrade our Exchange2000 (old server) to Exchange2003 (new server). Should I upgrade Unity during the Exchange upgrade (which will be some time), or just go ahead and upgrade Unity while we wait for the new Exchange server to come in?

Hi Mike,

You need to upgrade Unity before you can upgrade to Exchange 2003 because the changes that Exchange 2003 Forestprep makes to AD will cause Unity to stop functioning. I have a tech-reviewed draft of a doc on upgrading a Unity system from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 that I can send you. It'll be included in the updated Reconfiguration Guide, which should be posted on Cisco.com right after the first of the year. If you want a preview, drop an email to skralik@cisco.com and I'll send you a PDF.

Scott
