Third party antenna compatibility

Hi,

I would like to know is there any third party antenna that can be attached to a Cisco AP 1200?

Where can I find out more about it?

Is Cisco recommend customer to use other types of antenna to connect to a Cisco access point? What is the impact the customer will face?

Hi Delon,

Antenna must be certified and tested with the device they will be serving. For this reason manufacturers use proprietary connectors. The Cisco APs use Reverse Polarity TNC connectors (RP-TNC).

The short answer, then, is that 3rd party antennas are not certified for use.

Cisco uses a reverse TNC connector. An antenna that has the RPTNC connector will fit the Cisco AP. Possible impact to the customer: you could exceed the maximum radiated power allowed in your country which could result in enforcement action if your equipment causes interference. I thought it was the fcc that said they had to be proprietary.
