In that case your AP is probably wrongly configured.

It logged this here:

Discovery Request sent to 192.168.2.251

That means you have either the wrong WLC address hard configured on the AP, or it gets it by DHCP or DNS.

It seems you're not sending the controller IP on DHCP, so the AP is trying other methods - And not getting right controller IP from any.

For some reason there's a static config of 192.168.2.100 and 192.168.2.101 on your AP. You can see is sending join request there, but since the controller is another IP and another subnet it can't be found.

You have several options:

- set up controller IP on DNS on on DHCP

- Manually set controller ip:

On the AP, go to enable mode and type the following command:

capwap ap primary-base wlc <ip address of your controller>

That should make the AP join the controller. Please post the output if this does not work.

Thanks,

Hi all,
Thanks for your reply,i have connected ap2802 to another switch,it can be work well, but we must config wlc's ip address on ap2802 for join wlc.We also have some ap1602 and ap2702,they can join to wlc after obtain ip address. So i don't know whether there are some limitation of ap2802.At a same switch, other aps can work normal,ap2802 cannot work as them, and need config a ip address of wlc....

It depends on which discovery process you use to join and if the AP is in the same VLAN as the AP-Management Interface.

See here for the possible variants an AP will discover a WLC: https://community.cisco.com/t5/wireless-mobility-documents/joining-process-of-an-cisco-access-point/ta-p/3149279

Which variant have you chosen?

OK ,got it,thanks for your help.
I config the dhcp with option43,AP can get wlc's ip address, and send discovery to wlc,ap2700 and ap1600 can work well, but ap2800 cannot work normal.i don't know how to confirm the L2 or L3 discovery process..
DHCP Option 43 should also work.

Make sure you also have set the correct primary gateway in the DHCP options. Do you have set any other options?

There is a possibility with another option to limit the Option 43 for only certain models of APs, I currently don't remember which option that was, but it's only a problem if it's configured.

it depends on what you are using for a dhcp server. But you have to define the VCI for the 2800, I think it is CiscoAP2800 or something like that, just search for dhcp option 43 on CCO and you can find the doc that explains this and also lists the VCI for the different models of APs.

I don't use the VCI with my 2800 and have no problem. My APs are in the same VLAN as the AP Manager interface though and for backup reasons I've also added the DNS entry 🙂

I don't have any other config of dhcp,at the beginning,i don't config the dhcp option43,other aps can work noraml after obtain ip address from dhcp server, only ap2802 need configure wlc's ip address by "capwap ap ..." command, then,it can be work. So,i doubt whether ap16 & ap27 discovery process difference with ap2800.But i didn't find any reason to explain this symptom, because i didn't face this issue before.

I am sorry, what's is VCI,is it DHCP Option 43 Vendor Class Identifier (VCI) ? If so,i configure dhcp server by cisco document as below:https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wireless-lan-wlan/97066-dhcp-option-43-00.html
