Unable to add SNMP server in WLC 5508 with 7.4.110

I am trying to add 0.0.0.0/0 as SNMP address and netmask and i am getting an error saying the netmask is invalid.

is there a different way to set this?

Hi Roy,

You can try this with WLC CLI & It should work

CLI sysntax is like below.

(WLC) >config snmp community ipaddr

In your case full CLI command is looks like this.

(WLC) >config snmp community ipaddr 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

I am getting error as below in CLI also.

(Cisco Controller) config>snmp community ipaddr 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

Incorrect input! should be non zero and must have contiguous ones

so is this like from 7.4.110 we have to give netmask in a different way?

Hi Roy,

This is strange.

I do not have a test WLC with this code to test, but command syntax is correct. I have verified it on my test controller in 7.0.116.0 & it is happy to accept it. Even 7.4 config guides does not show any other command syntax for this.

One good thing is, this is the default setting once you create a snmp-community. It should have 0.0.0.0/0 as subnet/net mask & you do not require any changes for the default config.

"show snmpcommunity" output should show the config values for your SNMP community.

If you are trying to change it from configured subnet to default value, then as a work around you can re-create the snmp commnuity from fresh (delete & recreate)

If you have Cisco TAC assistance then log a case with them to see why this command is not accepting in your code of WLC

I am having the same issue with 7.4.110.0 trying to enter xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.255 for a community string to limit to a single host. Has worked fine until this version.

I'm running v7.5 and had no issues. Just need to create a snmp community and map that community to the IP/mask

(WLC)>config snmp community create test

(WLC)>config snmp community ipaddr 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 test

That worked. Thanks a lot. But still i got the error on the CLI that netmask was invalid

But it was created.

The only command required is create command.Sequence i followed is as below.

config snmp community create

!This creates a default entry of SNMP String with 0.0.0.0/0 address and permission as ro(Read Only)we need to give permission as per our requirment

config snmp community accessmode ro/rw

config snmp community mode {enable | disable}

!After this command the community will be enabled.
