Hello,

As per Cisco, Currently 8.0.152.0, 8.3.143.0 and 8.5.135.0 will be recommended images. You can upgrade to any of the above as per your Access Point model. Below links are for your reference.

Cisco Recommended Image for 2504

Consider below points before upgrading 2504 WLC

Step Upgrade: Since you are in 7.0 version you can't directly go to 8.0 or later. Intermediate upgrades will be required. (Go through the release notes for the same)

Field upgrade Software: It should be FUS 1.9 or later release.

AP Upgrade bundle: If you have AP802,AP803,AP1530, AP1550 , AP1570 and AP1600 model access points you have to upgrade additional upgrade bundle for supporting the mentioned above images.

- Upgrade the controller first, which is actually what you may need in the first place, the AP may have an old certificate. If the problem persists with the latest software version for the controller, then google on how to turn off certificate verification.

Which model AP is not joining to the controller?

Remove the NTP and then Change the year of WLC as 2017 or 2016 Under commands —> set time.

1131 model devices has this kind of issue..post reboot they won’t join to the controller due to certificate expire..
