topic WLC for 300-365 Study in Wireless

Hello,

I have 3205 APs and I'm looking at what is the best controller for studying/labbing. My understanding that the vWLC doesn't support some of the HA features needed for the 300-365 exam?

Would 4402 be enough as it will only run 7.5?

Thanks.

3205 AP models ?? I never heard of it.

4400 series dont support HA(AP/Client SSO)

If you want to test HA(AP/Clinet SSO) then better to buy a second-hand 5508 WLC whcih supports it. Or if you want to buy new one then go with 3504.

Regards

I would suggest to have 2504 in your home lab. That will allow you to run 8.0.x code & test features on that software releases. It is the code version used in WIDEPLOY v1.0

That does not mean your 4402 is no use. It can run up to 7.0 releases and you can use it for learn most of the concepts (AP registration, code upgrade, WLAN config, etc) except new features added in code version 7.0.x onward. Pls use below compatibility matrix as a reference (table 3 list controller first/last supported software versions)

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html

vWLC is also good to have, but note that feature differences between vWLC & HW appliances.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/mesh/8-2/b_Virtual_Wireless_LAN_Controller_Deployment_Guide_8-2.html

If you really want to test HA, as Sandeep suggested need to have pair of 3504

HTH

Rasika

IMO you only need a vWLC and an AP for study.. the HA stuff isn't critical and I believe you can get that information from documentation/video without needing to test it.

If you have the $ then agreed with Rasika on 2504 but ultimately a vWLC trial is free if you have something to run it on
