topic After connecting to Gig port in Wireless

WLC 4402 interfaces and config

Hi Everyone,

I got 4402 WLC and was trying to configure it.

IT has 4 interfaces service,utility and 1 and 2.

Service interface has default IP 192.168.1.1 and i tried to use this interface to confiure the device but i was unable to ping the WLC.

Need to know if i need to access WLC via gui https and assign it IP 10.0.0.9 which interface should i assign this IP and which physical port i should

connect cable to?

Currently when i assign IP 10.0.0.9 to management interface and put physical cable to utility port then that port shows no light and i can not even ping

10.0.0.9 from WLC.

Can some one please tell me what all the 4 ports used for and their functions?

So the ports

the SFP ports 1 and 2 are for all traffic to and from the WLC, these are connected to your LAN.

The Service Port is for out of band management. It does not have a gateway, so you have to be on the same subnet to access via this port.

Utility port, is not used

There is also a db9 connector, this is the console port.

So if you take your laptop and assign your NIC an address in 192.168.1.x and connect to the service port you should be able to go through the GUI wizard to setup the WLC.

So does it mean that if i need https access to WLC then it should be connected to SFP port 1 or 2?

When we config this via GUI does Management port means SFP port 1 or 2?

I tried to insert SFP and connect it via Lan cable to switch but no Lights on the SFP port 1 or 2.

Do i need to use some specfix SFP type?

Hi Mahesh,

As Steve said, put your Laptop on 192.168.1.x range & connect it to the service port. Then access https://192.168.1.1 page that should give you the GUI access to the controller.

If you have console access, then you can configure any subnet IP to the service port as below (I have used 1.200 as example)

<WLC> config interface address service-port 192.168.1.200 255.255.255.0

Management interface is a logical interface. You can use either physical port 1 or port 2 or bundle both port to a ether-channel if you require more bandwidth.

Does your switchports are 1Gbps ?

Hi Rasika,

Switch port is not 1 Gbps.

So when you say Management port is logical port does it mean that i can assign Management and AP Manager interface IP in same vlan or subnet and connect the port 1

from WLC to switch and then make sure that same switch is also connected to AP?
