Interfaces on WLC and FlexConnect

I want to create an SSID that uses flexconnect settings, e.g when someone connects to the SSID, all the switching is done locally.

When creating a new SSID, it asks for an Interface. What part does the Interface play in this? I though the Interface was used for when traffic is tunneled back to controller and switched there? Does the "Interface" play when wanting to use FlexConnect?

Could someone explain when and how the Interface is configured / used?

That is default... for any WLAN you create you need to specify an interface. When you change an AP mode from local to FlexConnect, you have the ability to map an SSID to a vlan locally. Of course you need to set teh local switching in the WLAN advanced tab.

Excellent question , and same doubt here.
Today we had to try and create two flex connect aps at a nearby branch office , and the controller is located in the main office.

Both the branch offices are connected using mpls.

The wlans configured in main office are :

Data
Barcode
Branch office.

These wlans have been mapped to :

Interface - data ....vlan 8
Interface - barcode ... vlan 9

My question is the same actually ..if the flex connect maps have to be deployed in other branch office , the the third wlan should be mapped under which interface ? For instance in the branch office the intended vlan / interface to be used is that of barcode. So should I map the branch office wlan to barcode interface in the controller.

It doesn't matter what interface you map the WLAN to on the WLC. That is used for local mode APs and FlexConnect using central switching. FlexConnect APs with the WLAN configured for local switching will override the WLAN interface.

you could build a dummy interface and link the WLAN to that. That way if something hiccups you can't get a real address.

That being said, why not have the branch office use the 'Data' WLAN? that way if a user goes between sites they don't have to reconfigure the device.
