I have several locations, all with 5508 WLC's running version 7.0.98.0 software.

When I connect 1252 APs, they all join fine. No problems.

But when I connect any AP-1140, none will join the WLC.

To be clear..., if I take a AP-1252 and plug it into a switch port, it joins the WLC right away ....

... if I move the same Cat 5 cable to any AP-1140, it won't join.

That - at least to me - eliminates a network problem (ie: switch, port, router, VLAN, DHCP, etc, etc).

The 1252 and the 1140 are running the same IOS, although the date is slightly different...

AP-1252 IOS = ver 12.4 (18a) dated 23-JAN-09

AP-1140 IOS = ver 12.4 (18a).dated 14-)CT-09

I realize someone may ask for log entries and such... but I'm just wondering if there is a known bug in the AP-1140 ???

If the 2 APs are running the same software, why would one join and one would not ?

nope, no bugs come to mind about the 1140. there was one against the WLC and a non 0 starting mac addresss.

time for capwap debugs

hmmm.. none of the access points I have (whether 1252 or 1140) have macs starting with "0"

do you know if the WLC bug was still presnt in 7.0.98.0 ?

I guess I can continue on with trying capwap debug, but then why would all the 1250s be ok, and the 1140's not ? Are not the capwaps identical ?

What discovery mechanism are you using to tell the APs where the WLC is located?

- DNS resolution (cisco-capwap-controller)

- DHCP option 43?

- Subnet broadcast

- Broadcast forwarding?

If you are using DHCP option 43, you might not have the vendor class defined for the 1140 series, so the 1140 series would not find the WLC IP address. Also verify that your 1140 are running lightweight images (k9w8, not k9w7).

-Pat
