WLC configuration script or backup?

Hello,

I wonder if there is a way to save the WLC configuration as a .txt file or a copy start to tftp command like in a switch or router in order to later paste or load it to another or the same WLC.

This is because I am about to add a backup WLC in my network which only difference will be name and IP address therefore I hope I can avoid going step by step through it's configuration. Or lets say I restore default settings in my current WLC and then I want to just load a config file, or again is it a step by step process?

Hello,

Starting from 5.2 or later, when loading the config file via FTP or TFTP, you can actually open it with a text editor and it should show as a list of commands:

In this way you can make changes with the text editor and load it back to the WLC.
Alternatively, you could also copy the whole config as a text, go in the WLC's config mode (with the "config" command) and at the prompt "config>" simply copy the whole config text file.

but is there a method to save configs automatically and periodically ? (To TFTP/FTP server or anywhere? )

Kiwi / Solarwinds makes a product called CatTools that does this and is free for up to 20 devices:

It was a bit more difficult to configure to work with my WLC than switches, routers and PIX/ASAs but it works.
