What is the default username and password for logging in to the Aironet 702i access point?

Cisco/Cisco should work.

After I have logged in to the access point with the console cable, what is the basic configuration that needs to be done on the access point so the AP can connect to a Cisco 2504 WCS that is configured for flex connect? The controller is a our main office, and the AP is at a remote branch office.

You need to simply point your AP to WLC. There are multiple way of doing it without touching AP console. Eg DHCP option 43 and DNS are two method. See below docs for more detail.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wireless-lan-wlan/97066-dhcp-option-43-00.html

If you prefer to static method via CLI, you can use below command via AP console
