Thanks Scott.

i am running in the similar environment where I never had AP-Manager configured on 5508 and it works fine.

Now I'm configuring 5520 and realised Cisco did mention this but no much detail out there for newer Controllers, 5508 and 5520.

I think it works fine without AP-Manger interface.

Regards,
S

AP-Manager Interface - How important is this?

Hi Everyone,

How important is to configure AP-Manager Interface?

In my current scenario, I have configured AP-Management interface and AP has joined to the WLC on that particular AP-Management interface successfully and working fine..

Now Cisco recommends to configure AP-Manager interface for APs to join AP-manager address after it's discovery through Management interface.

What are the implications of not configuring the AP-Management interface?

Can anyone please shed the light?

Best regards,

S

When the 2504 and 5508 came

When the 2504 and 5508 came out, default was that the management interface also was the AP manager. This works well and there is no need to create a separate AP manager anymore. Also with the newer controllers and the one mentioned, the AP has to have connectivity to both the AP manager interface and the management interface. On older controllers like the 4400, people isolated the AP subnet from management but this doesn't work anymore. I never separate the AP manager interface anymore.

The newer controllers are the 5520/8540 and also don't require a separate interface for AP managers. Keep things default with the management being the AP manager and things will work fine.
