What can be done as far on the management side to see when an AP goes down?

I know with Meru, we can query the controller via SNMP, to determine the status of an AP (or might be other way around)...but we dont have this issue. Of course on their controller down means down. Is there a means in which when an AP goes offline (Cisco AP that is) thats its controller can alert somehow via SNMP?

Cisco 5508.

When APs go offline, on the Monitor tab, it does not register as AP down, it just decrements the total AP# by 1. What option do we set to show the APs down?

What option do we set to show the APs down?

Jimmy,

This is done on purpose as to not "clutter" the WLC Monitor field. And this is also done to ensure that someone will buy WCS/NCS/PI.

The bad thing about WCS/NCS/PI is that it takes 15 minutes to let you know if an AP has gone offline. We've done SNMP scripts that poll the WLC every minute and we can see which APs go offline before PI tells us.

What can be done as far on the management side to see when an AP goes down?

Can be done with Cisco WCS/NCS/PI.

Can be effectively done with SNMP.

Is there any sort of white paper or any sort of literature on Ciscos web site discussing this? If so, great, if not, thanks again for your responses.
