Hi ALL,

we have a WLC 5508 and over 100 APs (mainly 3702 and 1142 AP)

How do we get an alert or email if one of the AP died or someone disconnect them ?

Any advice are much appreciated,

Thanks

Peter

If you have prime you can set up alerts that way. If you don't the wlc doesn't offer this but if you have a fancy syslog with alerting you could aggregate the syslog from the wlc and have the syslog manage it .. You could also use like a solar winds and add the ap to monitoring ..

In solar winds you can add the access points by ip and if solar winds can't ping it, it will alert you. That simpler thank syslog ..

Well it seems like you need to increase the license if you want to monitor the AP's. Maybe monitor the switch port the AP's are connected to since your switches are being monitored. The AP's can't be setup for snmp if lightweight. Even though you can get it to work initially (not recommended), a reboot will set the AP's back to normal mode in which snmp will not work.

-Scott

Sorry for my ignorant here but if Solarwind can pick up error logs from WLC.

why can't we somehow set up the WLC to send error logs to Solarwind when one of the APs die or disconnected.

Otherwise our best and only option is to monitor the switch port as suggested.

Thanks

You can send staking from the controller, but are you going to parse through all that info? Why not try it out and see if what the controller sends is what you can use if it isn't, then you don't have any choice, than to get more licenses or get Prime Infrastructure.

-Scott
