Power that AP via a external power adapter & directly connect AP ethernet to your laptop

2. Configure Laptop with IP- 10.0.0.2 Mask- 255.0.0.0 - GW-10.0.0.1

3. Download c1130-rcvk9w8-tar.124-25e.JAN1.tar image onto your TFTP server on this PC & renamed it as c1130-rcvk9w8-tar.default

4.

Rasika

I know your solution would work and have marked it appropriately however we managed to get all AP's registered by using the following method

Took the AP's which were failing to even register on-site back to the office and attached to a 2504 running 7.5.102.0.with a backend switch running a dhcp server Both AP's downloaded c1130-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JAN1 and joined the 2500 no problems at all

Took the newly imaged AP's back to site along with the 2504 and connected up the AP's to the 5508 and they registered no problem. All existing APs were then put in a vlan which the 2504 was in. configured a DHCP scope on the switch. Shut no shut all associated AP ports and then waited until sh cdp nei det showed the new image installed. Once complete placed the AP's back in their vlan and watched them register.

Still dont see why the 5508 wants to load the c1130-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA7 image. Only difference between the the 2504 and the 5508 was that the 5508 AP's are on a different vlan and subnet than the management interface. The 2504 is in the same vlan.

Would like to proove it with the 5508 with APs and WLC in the same vlan but it is a working system so cannot

Hi Steve,

Glad you got this working somehow..

Still dont see why the 5508 wants to load the c1130-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA7 image. Only difference between the the 2504 and the 5508 was that the 5508 AP's are on a different vlan and subnet than the management interface. The 2504 is in the same vlan.

When you do this AP reset to factory default, it is trying to load an image using local broadcast, so if your WLC is on the same subenet as AP then it would be success & load the correct image.

when you do the AP factory reset keeping 5508 in different vlan, image won't be loaded using that method. In that way since AP knew 5508 trying to get register, & download the image. But in your case it may not copy the image correctly & hence some complication of joining process.

HTH

Rasika

***** Pls rate all useful responses ****
