To preserve the VLAN mappings in the access point after an upgrade or downgrade, it is necessary that the access point join is restricted to the controller for which it is primed. That is, no other discoverable controller with a different configuration should be available by other means. Similarly, at the time the access point joins, if it moves across controllers which have different VLAN mappings, the VLAN mappings at the access point may get mismatched.

I am having

issue with flexconnect mode AP. They are losing vlan mapping very frequently. I need to reconfigure the vlan mapping then only client starts getting IP addresses. Please let me know what may be the issue.

AP model: AIR-CAP3602I-N-K9

WLC model: AIR-CT5508-K9

Regards,

Vijayanand

Yes, I have this issue, too and recently it has gotten a lot worse. The AP does not fail over to another wlc (which the backup is setup exactly the same). An AP will loose some of their mappings (like 2 or 3 out of 4), but not the AP group or AP mode. It might happe n to the same AP every night or several of the APs at a site, but again usually not all the APs, just about 30-60% and not always the same ones.

Controller is WISM1, code ver 7.0.240

AP - 3502i

Take a look at this thread.... I created a spreadsheet which you can cut and paste and change all the vlan mappings so you don't have to figure out what AP its broke on. It also explains the reasons why you might loose the vlan mappings.

Hope this helps

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2221117

Thanks,

Scott

Help out other by using the rating system and marking answered questions as "Answered"

We were plagued by this too, with 7.0 and 7.4 code.

We used a modification of Scott's spreadsheet to set VLAN mapping on any clients that reported issues until we got Cisco Prime Infrastructure running. (Once we got CPI in we used CPI to push a daily config update to all APs remapping their VLANs an hour or so before sites open for the day. No trouble since.)

I added lines to Scott's spreadsheet to set the primary and secondary APs (granted, Vijayanand doesn't have a secondary if I'm reading this right; could still help).

"config ap primary-base <PRIMARY wism="" name=""> <AP name=""> <PRIMARY wism="" ip="" address=""></PRIMARY></AP></PRIMARY>

config ap secondary-base <PRIMARY wism="" name=""> <AP name=""> <PRIMARY wism="" ip="" address="">"</PRIMARY></AP></PRIMARY>

Until we got CPI installed, this reduced how often we had to manually update VLAN mapping. Of course with CPI installed we put this in the config push, along with a few other universal settings just to make sure.

The configuration on the controller must be the same between the time the access point went into standalone mode and the time the access point came back to connected mode.
