With the WLAN override option, you can choose which SSIDs an AP offers. Controllers support only up to 16 SSIDs each, so you can only choose from among the supported 16. This is done on a per-AP basis.

Hi, I created five wlan in WLC, Now my PC can see all of them(five) from one LAP. I just want the LAP to sent out three of the five SSID. Can I do it? How to limit the number of SSID in one LAP ? Thank you

Hi there,

Hi there,

You can do this with 'AP Groups'. An AP group allows you to advertise certain SSIDs from the APs that you place within that group.

Click WLANS > Advanced > AP groups

Add the SSIDs you want to advertise under the 'WLANs' tab. Add the APs from the 'AP' tab.

APs will otherwise join the 'Default' AP group when they boot for the first time. By default this group advertises all SSIDs, however this can be modified to your liking. The AP group that an AP is a member of can also be changed in the 'Advanced' tab within the AP's settings.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Hi,

Click on WLANS > and then select SSID which you want to disable, then uncheck broadcast SSID

The AP Group VLANs feature is

The AP Group VLANs feature is an additional method used to limit the broadcast domains to a minimum. This is done by logically segmenting a WLAN into different broadcast domains. It limits the broadcast of a WLAN to a smaller group of LAPs. This helps to manage load balancing and bandwidth allocation more effectively. The AP Group VLANs feature creates a new table in the controller which lists the interfaces for every WLAN ID. Each entry in the table is indexed using a location name (which defines the group of LAPs).

Note: AP groups do not allow multicast roaming across group boundaries. AP groups allow APs on the same controller to map the same WLAN (SSID) to different VLANs. If a client roams between APs in different groups, the multicast session does not function properly because this is currently not supported. Currently, the WLC forwards multicast only for the VLAN configured on the WLAN and does not take into consideration VLANs configured in AP groups.

Click on following link for configuration step by step example AP Group Creation.

Thank you so much for your reply. I created vlan and AP-group, and then put the vlan into the AP-group. In wireless tab of wlc, I need to put the AP-group into the AP, but I cannot find the AP-group that I created since the AP-group does not appear in the box of right side of "AP Group Name". Can you tell what is wrong ? Thank you .

my 2 cents. if you are running mDNS for Apple TV on the WLC without LSS you could see the multicast traffic from one AP Group/SSID1 into APGroup 2/SSID2.

This has nothing to do with the original question but could be considered if Apple TV is included into the equation/services provided on the WiFi
