The firmware will depend

The firmware will depend entirely upon the OLDEST APs you've got in your network.

Personally, I'd recommend 8.2.151.0, which is already a very mature train.

You may need to contact Cisco

You may need to contact Cisco TAC and ask them to RMA the appliance. Make sure the replacement appliance comes with HDD with pre-loaded firmware (because they don't, most of the time).

Dear Leo,

so you are confirming me that wireless controller image cannot be installed on a fresh hardware except VMware ESXi host ( virtualization) image.

thanks

so you are confirming me that

so you are confirming me that wireless controller image cannot be installed on a fresh hardware except VMware ESXi host ( virtualization) image.

Now I'm getting confused.

There is a WLC software that can be installed in a VMware called vWLC. The 5520's is a UCS running a specially corralled WLC firmware. I find it difficult to believe someone, other than Cisco staff, could get into the 5520 and "format" the HDD.

So what are we talking about here? vWLC or 5520?

Dear Leo,

yes i m talking about 5520 appliance which came pre-installed with wlc image, the guys were new not knowing that it is a WLC 5520 appliance and they managed to format the disk by windows 2012 bootable CD hence they find many difficulties to boot from CD but still they somehow tried to format it.

Now i am stuck,i can't buy ESXI host license to install vWLC image nor i am able to find the WLC image which will is bootable so that it i can install on the fresh hardware.

thanks

Contact Cisco TAC and get

Contact Cisco TAC and get them to arrange for an RMA for the HDD. Give them explicit instruction that the HDD must have the WLC firmware inside. Make sure they understand the situation.

Once the replacement HDD arrives, make sure none of the "new guys" touch them.
