topic 2504 Wireless controller ? in Wireless

We're looking at updating our wireless network and was recommended a Cisco 2504 Wireless LAN controller. I have some questions I was unable to find out in the specs. Was hoping someone here had used one or knew the answers. Anywa we have or will have 9 Access Points we want users to be able to roam between them without disconnecting. Would that be possible with this device? Also some systems have it whre you can limit bandwidth between users so if one user connect and uses a lot it doesn't limit everyone else. Would that be possible with this setup?

Hi Jason,Yes, this is

Hi Jason,

Yes, this is possible with any Cisco WLC including 2504. If you want to see feature comparison of Cisco WLC you can refer this link.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/wireless/buyers-guide.html#~controllers,

For roaming to work, you need to have reasonable overlapping wireless coverage. Do a site survey & make sure RF coverage is good. Depending on the client end point you can enable certain fast roaming mechanism (like CCKM, 802.11r, SKC) to optimize roaming.

Here is a WLC configuration guide for software version 7.6.x which is latest at the moment.

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-6/configuration/guide/b_cg76.pdf

HTH

Rasika

**** Pls rate all useful responses ****

Anywa we have or will have 9

Anywa we have or will have 9 Access Points we want users to be able to roam between them without disconnecting.

Roaming is very easy to achieve even with a group of APs operating autonomous IOS (no WLC). The main point to consider is that roaming is achievable if your APs are spaced properly. This is why we always recommend that if you want to ensure you want the ability to have wifi roaming it's a good investment to get a proper wireless site survey done.

Also some systems have it whre you can limit bandwidth between users so if one user connect and uses a lot it doesn't limit everyone else. Would that be possible with this setup?

Yes this is achievable and this will depend entirely on the firmware your WLC is running on. Starting with 7.4.X.X, you can now set QoS either by SSID or individual wireless clients.
