You can't turn an eval to another license type. It seems like your WLC was purchased without a base license since the count is zero. You would need to purchase a base license in order to have a permanent ap license count. Then after that, you can use adder license.

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

Hi,

Our controller shows two licenses,

base - which says permanent with no count & no expiry

base-ap-count- which reads evaluation with expiry shown as 4 weeks having count of 500.

Out of these two, we think the base-ap-count is what is important, but it shows evaluation. Is this correct, how should it be turned to permanent?

Please advise with inputs.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you should have purchased licence for the controller. you should have PAK (Product Authorization Key) & then you can go to online & request license file entering below information.

1. Product ID, which will always be AIR-CT5508-K9 (this is different from the one needed for an RMA license)

2. Serial number of the 5508

3. PAK certificate that is obtained through your Cisco channel partner or your Cisco sales representative, or that you can order online at this URL: http://www.cisco.com/web/ordering/root/index.html.

Once you receive the licence file, you have to install it on WLC.

This link should guide you

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10315/products_tech_note09186a0080b78104.shtml

HTH

Rasika

**** Pls rate all useful responses *****

Activating an AP-Count Evaluation License

If you are considering upgrading to a license with a higher access point count, you can try an evaluation license before upgrading to a permanent version of the license. For example, if you are using a permanent license with a 50-access-point count and want to try an evaluation license with a 100-access-point count, you can try out the evaluation license for 60 days.

AP-count evaluation licenses are set to low priority by default so that the controller uses the ap-count permanent license. If you want to try an evaluation license with an increased access point count, you must change its priority to high. If you no longer want to have this higher capacity, you can lower the priority of the ap-count evaluation license, which forces the controller to use the permanent license.
