What network is your idevice on when they disconnect, guest ?

Apple idevices do not chatter a lot on the network unlike windows devices. As such 2 timers often come into play.

First, the user idle timeout. This can be found under the controller tab all the way towards the bottom. This is default to 300 seconds (5 minutes). If your idevice doesn't talk within 5 minutes the controller will delete the record. Causing the client to reauth or accpet the guest screen.

Secondly, session timeout timer. You will find the session timeout udner the WLAN->ADVANCE tab. The deafult is 1800 seconds (30 minutes). What this means, is if a client authenticates to a network within 30 minutes from that time they will get deauthenticated and will have to reauth again. Again, if this is a guest network they will get the accept screen.

Make sense? I hope this helps ...

Hi!

We are deoploying a wireless network based on WLCs v 7 for corporate users and an anchor controller on a DMZ for guests.

We are using PEAP as authentication method with Server Side Certificates. It appears as if iphones and ipads de-associates themselvs from the wireless network after a while to save battery and then the users have to re-authenticate again. This is annoying to the end users. I am curious to hear whether anyone has a workaround for this or some way of mitigating the impact.

Thanks

Anna

We had just this issue, however it was actually an issue with EAP M3 messages. Not batter power save. The users kept seeing login prompts...

We ended up turning off session timeouts under WLAN advanced settings - in reality setting the timeout to 24hrs internally.. Note that 6.0.202 firmware doesn't exhibit this issue for us, but we didn't want to be stuck on an old version.

Simon
