different VLANs (one per floor). and one SSID for Guest (one VLAN for the whole branch building).

This is not a smart idea because wireless signal can go through floors and walls. Wireless clients on one floor is not guaranteed to associate to an AP on that same level.

Hi Experts,

May you please support me on this request.

I have 2×2504 to deploy in a branch. customer wants one SSID for corporate users but different VLANs (one per floor). and one SSID for Guest (one VLAN for the whole branch building).

if a failover occur from wlc1 to wlc2, corporate users and guest users should still using the same VLANs as mentioned above(as with the wlc1).

is it doable?

kindly support,

thanks,

I have 2×2504 to deploy in a branch. customer wants one SSID for corporate users but different VLANs (one per floor).

By design, though you assign different vlan for each floor wireless users, in practice you can't achieve this seperation.

Let's say a user first associated to wireless network while he is in level 1. So he will get an IP assign to level 1. Then he moves to level 2, your client may roam to Level 2 AP, still keep the IP allocated while he was in level 1.

Due to this it is not advisable to splitting each floor into different vlans. I would rather assign single vlan/subnet for entire building.

if a failover occur from wlc1 to wlc2, corporate users and guest users should still using the same VLANs as mentioned above(as with the wlc1). is it doable?

If you want to have the same subnet IP, then WLC1 and WLC2 should be layer 2 apart. If it is across a L3 boundary, when WLC1 failed, client has to get new IP from WLC2 allocated subnet range.

HTH

Rasika

*** Pls rate all useful responses ***
