AIR-CAP3502I unable to auto boot

Hi,

I have this issue after Cisco send us RMA. Whenever i restart the AP, it wont able to auto boot. I have to type command manually to boot the AP. Is there any command or way to make this AP to auto boot?

please advice.

Hi,

So the AP works fine but it only stuck when rebooted and you have to reboot it manually. That is all your problem, right?

- What is your WLC model and software version?

- What is the shape of the command propmt when you try to write the "boot" command? is it [ap:] (without brackets) or [AP_name#] (without brackets)?

- You only write the word "boot" or you have to specify the image name for the boot to work?

- What is your AP mode (local, HREAP/FlexConnect, bridge,.... etc).

Software version : 7.2.110.0

Answer :

[ap:] (without brackets)

Is the image saved in your flash shows same name as the one in your "show boot" command?

It seems that the boot process does not find the neede image name when it looks for it.

What you need to do is to install the recovery image again on the AP and that should fix the issue.

Use TFTP server and connect it to the AP while AP and PC on same subnet:

AP>en

AP#debug lwapp console cli OR debug capwap console cli (one of the commands works depending on your version. I think the second one will work with you in your case).

AP#config t

AP(confg)int fa 0

AP(confg-if)ip addr (same subnet as that of the laptop)

AP(confg-if)end

AP#archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp:///

After the archiving done the AP reboots (do that manually if it does not) and you should be in a good AP now.

connect your AP to the network and make it join the WLC.

If your ap boots up in rom mode ap:

Then issues the following

ap: dir flash:

This should show you files along with the code. Set your BOOT to point the the directory and file. Below is an example but not the correct directory or file that you have.

ap: set BOOT flash:/c350-k9w7-mx.122-13.JA1/c350-k9w7-mx.122-13.JA1

Enter the set command to check your bootloader entries. This is example and you can change it but typing the "set" command.

ap: set IP_ADDR 192.168.133.160

ap: set NETMASK 255.255.255.0

ap: set DEFAULT_ROUTER 192.168.133.1

Here is what you need to do as an example

ap: set

BOOT=flash:/c350-k9w7-mx.122-13.JA1/c350-k9w7-mx.122-13.JA1

DEFAULT_ROUTER=192.168.133.1

IP_ADDR=192.168.133.160

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

Enter the boot command to reboot the access point. When the access point reboots, it loads the new image.

ap: boot

I manage to solve the problem. After I Set BOOT to point the the directory and file, I also Set MANUAL_BOOT to no. Below is the example

ap: set BOOT flash:/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JA1/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JA1

ap: set MANUAL_BOOT No

ap: boot

Also, booting into ROM helps out if you are not able to log into an ap after it has joined a wlc. I have had to troubleshoot APs in which the default credentials were changed and I was not able to access the enable mode. Booting into ROM, you can delete the private-config or anything else that might need to be deleted.
