256 QAM support for 2.4G WIFI

Hi Experts,

I noticed that some WIFI vendor can support 200Mbps for 802.11n( 1SS).

They use 256QAM instead of 64QAM for 802.11n to achieve more 33% performance.

Do we need special client to get benefit of 256QAM on 2.4GHz?

If i have a standard 802.11n, I can use 200Mbps per SS?

256 QAM used only in 802.11ac, which is supported in 5GHz. Refer below table to see what data rates you can get with specific modulation types.

You can see with 1SS, you can achieve 200Mbps with MCS9 (only in 802.11ac) and 40MHz channel bonding. So 2.4Gz is out of the picture.

Hi Rasika,

This index is very useful. I stored this.

The Broadcom have a technology called TurboQAM, It can use 256QAM on 40Mhz for 802.11n, like Index 9 above.

True, but this is only for Broadcom clients. It's outside of the specification and stable function is not guaranteed with 3rd party clients.
